Earlton Drag 'N Fly drag races, 2015

Timiskaming Drag 'N Fly drag races, held in Earlton, Ontario on August 7, 8, and 9 of 2015 at the Earlton airport. Most of these shots were taken on Sunday, the 9th. My primary photographic objective was to get good panning shots at fairly slow shutter speeds to emphasize the speed of the vehicles. Although the goal is to get a smeared background while keeping the subject itself nice and crisp, a little bit of subject blur is normal in this type of shot. With shutter speeds as low as 1/80 of a second, good sharp shots can be a bit hit and miss, and shots with an unacceptable amount of subject blur were discarded. Images with the orange pylons in the shot are especially good at giving you some indication of just how much motion the camera went through during the exposure. I think the shots of motorcycles look particularly compelling with this technique. Thanks for visiting.
