Team Penning at the 2011 New Liskeard Fall Fair

Friday, September 16, 2011 at the New Liskeard fair grounds. For the sake of visual interest and to achieve the kind of photographic look I was after, photos of this event work best when they contain both a rider and a cow in close proximity. Being a team penning event, the photos also work best if there is some obvious interaction between the two. When action is slow and spread out, which it tends to be when everything is working optimally for the penning team, this is difficult to achieve. Fortunately (for me), there were some very "sticky" cows for this event, which is very conducive to the conditions I was looking for photographically. The "0" cows in particular gave some excellent photo opportunities as riders were often very close to and obviously interacting with the cows, with a good fast chase scene sometimes thrown in for good measure.
